MHD Technology: Instrumental in successfully recommending a $15 million earmark in the Senate Committee and conference report language accompanying the FY 1993 DoD Appropriation Act to conduct research on liquid metal magnetohydrodynamic thermal energy conversion technology at The Johns Hopkins University. Renewable Energy: Conceived of and co-authored Senate Committee report language accompanying the FY 1990 and FY 1991 Foreign Operations Appropriation Acts directing USAID to increase its funding for renewable energy technologies and their application to various development programs. Successfully recommended that U.S. Treasury representatives to Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) be directed to press for reforms in the energy policies of the banks. African Development Foundation (ADF): Conceived of and authored Senate Committee report language accompanying the FY 1989 Foreign Operations Appropriation Act requiring the ADF to explore the uses of renewable energy technology in its development projects and to begin working with renewable energy organizations in the U.S.
